Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions and that’s a good thing.

Before we start working together, most clients want to understand how our process works, what to expect, and how we can help simplify their financial lives. Part of the process at CMA Wealth Management is education.  We encourage questions and here are some of the most common questions we hear:

  • We lead with planning, not products.  You don’t have to move your accounts or commit long-term to get value from working with us.  We do not use high pressure tactics that other firms may.  As a CFP® professional I have the education, experience, and access to research and insights that the average investor does not.  We know how important it is to keep up with the latest laws and tax code changes, and know about strategies that can make it easier to reach your goals—which may save you a lot of money over the long run, too.
  • Financial planning starts with setting your goals.  It’s about aligning your money with your life both in the short term and long term.  When you have a thoughtful plan, you can stop wondering if you’re doing enough and start making confident decisions.
  • Just about any life goal that involves money.  The sooner you start planning for your goals, the better prepared you will be to reach them.  Listing all of your financial goals can help you fine-tune your financial picture.  By working with a CFP® professional, you can get help to figure out how to prioritize these goals, as well as the amount of money you need to reach those goals.
  • Our primary services offered involve comprehensive financial planning and wealth management.  This includes retirement income planning, cash flow and tax strategies, estate planning, investment planning, Social Security and Medicare guidance, and risk management.  We also offer a complimentary, comprehensive portfolio review.  It never hurts to have a second opinion.
  • Our practice is driven by an evidence-based approach, and decades of expertise pursuing higher returns while maintaining low costs and diversification.  We believe in long-term, diversified investing based on your goals and risk tolerance
  • When you choose a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, you can be assured that you’re working with a financial advisor who has demonstrated competency and made a commitment to ethics. CFP® professionals must successfully complete a multi-year, multi-step process to obtain the skills and real-life experience they need to serve your best interests, no matter what your financial goals are.
  • When you hire a CFP® professional, you are hiring a trusted advisor who has committed to CFP Board to putting your interests first. That’s because as part of my certification, a CFP® professional commits to acting as a fiduciary—which means acting in your best interests at all times when providing you with financial advice and financial planning services. A fiduciary is legally and ethically required to act in your best interest. As CFP® professionals, we’re proud to operate as fiduciaries. You can expect honest guidance, full transparency, and recommendations that truly fit your life.
  • It’s a conversation, not a commitment. We’ll ask a few key questions to understand what brought you in, what concerns or goals you have, and whether we’re a good fit. There’s no cost or pressure — just a chance to talk through where you are and how we might help.
  • Yes we encourage it. We believe your best results come from teamwork, so we encourage open communication with your CPA, estate attorney, and other trusted professionals. That way, your investment, tax, and estate strategies all stay aligned and working toward the same goals.
  • For financial planning, we charge by the hour. You pay for our time and expertise — not for products, commissions, or account size. If you choose to work with us for investment management, we have a simple management fee, structured so we do better when our clients do better.
  • Yes. Planning isn’t about timing the market or waiting for a milestone — it’s about making more confident choices today. The sooner you start planning for your goals, the better prepared you will be to reach them. Whether you’re 10 years from retirement or already there, having a plan helps you make better decisions with less stress. The planning process does not stop once you retire. We assist many clients with tax efficient retirement income strategies, legacy planning for your family and ways to make a difference for a charity.
  • Yes. These are some of the most important — and often confusing — decisions people face in retirement. We’ll walk you through your options, help you understand the tradeoffs, and coordinate with other professionals as needed.
  • I have been working in the industry for almost 25 years. I have never had any public or private disciplinary action taken against me by any Financial Industry Regulatory Authority or Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Not at all. Many of our clients work with us strictly for planning. If, after working together, it makes sense to bring accounts under management, we can discuss that — but only if it’s the right fit for both of us.
  • That’s completely okay. Many of our clients come to us for their first planning experience. We’ll guide you step by step, at your pace, with no jargon or pressure.
